Gail V. Wells
Gail V. Wells is an Erie County Master Gardener, marketing consultant, event planner, diversity trainer, wellness educator, and social justice advocate. She has received two degrees in Urban Planning—one as an undergraduate and another as a graduate student at the University at Buffalo.
In 2020, Gail V. Wells founded Buffalo Freedom Gardens as a rapid response to the COVID19 pandemic, ensuring BIPOC community members affected by the pandemic had access to growing healthy food at home.

Deidra M. EmEl
Deidra M. EmEl is a holistic health practitioner with a passion for promoting mind-body wellness in individuals and communities alike. With a Bachelors in Sociology and experience as a Community Health Worker, she delves into the social determinants of health, understanding the intricate connections between ecological and socio-political factors and their impact on societal well-being.
For over two decades, Deidra has cultivated her expertise as an herbalist and urban homesteader, serving as a co-farm manager at The Congregation of Israel Biblical and Cultural Center’s Urban Farm on the Eastside of Buffalo, since 2007. Through this role, she co-facilitates the Shalom Healing Garden, a holistic health ministry offering workshops on herbal medicine-making and homesteading practices.
Deidra’s commitment to holistic health extends to her continuous education, having completed herbal medicine studies through international institutions such as the Sage Mountain Herbal Center and current studies at the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine.
